Year 4 has been a fun place to be around Michael Faraday this week as the children have been learning and enjoying different dance styles from around the world. We wanted the children to not only experience the differences in style, but also to compare how different cultures use dance within their communities.
The children have been rehearsing African dances, street dancing, merengue and traditional country dancing. We have learnt that most dance styles follow a sequence of moves, all based around the music. The children have been learning to listen to the music, and then to anticipate when each change of moved is needed.
Our dance sessions have helped us to work together as a year group, as well as developing our coordination and sense of timing. We are planning to put on a dance performance to the rest of the school before the end of the term.
