We have been encouraging the Reception children with their reading skills during the first half of the autumn term. This is a key period in the development of their letter recognition, and we want to make each child feel comfortable at reading at a level that will help them continue to improve. We invited each Reception child to choose their own book. Working one on one with an adult, the children looked at the pictures, described what was happening, and then attempted to recognise some letters or words.
This task has been a great success and we are going to celebrate with a teddy bear’s picnic! The children have been asked to bring in a teddy bear from home. We will also be making our own food for the picnic. The Reception children have been thinking about what type of filling is their favourite in a sandwich. Tuna appears to be the most popular choice.
