Year 6 have been looking at different forms of new journalism, and then comparing the skills needed to work across different mediums. We have been carrying out a detailed content analysis of TV news, and then compared with the style of reporting that we read about in newspapers, or view online via the internet. We wanted to add a practical angle to this work, and so we asked Year 6 to work in small groups and to prepare their own news production.
Our pupils had the task of telling the traditional story of the Three Little Pigs via their own chosen news medium. We studied techniques used during Newsround, and learnt how a balanced argument from both sides is important for an objective news report. You can watch some of the reporting in the video above.
