The Year 6 pupils at Michael Faraday School have been preparing for the festive period by composing some special pieces of Christmas poetry. We have been learning about different literacy techniques that we can use to make our poetry even more entertaining for the reader. Alliteration and ‘nonsense’ phrases are two examples of this.
Each class member has composed a nonsense poem full of lovely alliteration. The starting point for this was the classic Twelves Days of Christmas song. We asked the pupils to re-work this theme, and to personalise the message with some creative examples of nonsense writing.
With the words written, the next task was to create a Christmas Card to contain our poems. These were then given a special message for a family or friend, and then taken home to help celebrate the Christmas and New Year period.
