The Reception children have been very excited about celebrating the Chinese New Year. We have been learning about the origins of the traditional story. The children now all understand why each Chinese New Year is named after an animal.
We have been very creative with our work for this topic. Chinese lanterns have been cut out and hung in our Reception class. Our learning space also includes a Chinese dragon that the children have created.
The Reception children have also been enjoying playing with their Chinese New Year puppets. These were cut out, and then attached to a couple of sticks to hold. We have set up a Reception puppet stage to act out the play.
Traditional Chinese food has also been a great success in the Reception. The children have been holding noodle tasting sessions. We are grateful to the parents with a Chinese background who have offered traditional sweets for the children.
