Fantastic Y1 Performances at the Blue Elephant Theatre

Both Year 1 classes staged an end of term production at the Blue Elephant Theatre. This was part of a musical and drama project working alongside composer John Webb. The Royal Academy of Arts also helped the children with their performances.

The idea was for the Year 1 children to develop their own storylines and build this into a short production. The timeframe was short. Four sessions took place – two creative workshops, and two rehearsals.

The creative sessions started with some singing and games. This led to the brainstorming of some possible characters. The children were asked what might happen next in the story. The plot, song lyrics and most of the melodies came from the Michael Faraday pupils.

The final outcome was two wonderful shows. Zoe’s class presented The Magic Story. Kelly’s Class came up with The Lion, the Witch and the Princess.

Two performances took place at the Blue Elephant Theatre. The children were familiar with the theatre having enjoyed a production of Jack Frost.

One final rehearsal took place at the Blue Elephant ahead of showtime. This was the first time the children experienced the professional lights and props.

John helped the pupils with some warm up songs ahead of the production. Parents and carers came out in large numbers to support our talented Year 1 children.

Both classes stepped up to the big stage and put in a couple of very energetic performances. We were rewarded with some fantastic feedback from the audience members.

We would like to thank everyone that helped to make the Blue Elephant shows such a success. Professional composer John Webb is a long term friend of the school. We always appreciate the support that he gives to the pupils.

John was able to arrange for skilled singers and musicians from the Royal Academy of Arts to take part. Joey and Alicia were superb singers and actors. The musical backing from Will, Felicity and Dave helped the stories to come alive.

We also need to thank all the pupils for putting in so much hard work over the past fortnight. Plus thank you to our amazing staff who always step up to the challenge. It was wonderful to see so may parents and carers coming along to the shows.

Finally the Blue Elephant Theatre is a superb local facility right in the heart of our community. Staff member Jo was invaluable for her theatrical knowledge.

We are happy to share video highlights, and a photo gallery of the project below.
