Both Year 1 classes had plenty of fun showing our visitors around our special toy museum. A recent trip to the V & A Museum of Childhood inspired the children to design their own toy museum. We used some of the ideas that we saw at the V & A, and then transferred them back to Michael Faraday School.
Each class member had their own role. Our Year 1 staff included a Museum Manager, Gallery Assistants, Cafe staff, security guards and some helpful cleaners.
The children planned each exhibition by sorting a selection of old and new toys. These were labelled to let our visitors know a little more about the exhibits.
The Year 1 Toy Museum opened for one day. Posters and advertising had taken place around the school. All of the other classes were invited. We also had some very special visitors with some parents kindly giving up their time.
All Year 1 pupils were asked to concentrate on the knowledge that we learnt about the old toys. The aim was for our visitors to leave the museum with at least one new piece of information.
