The Reception children have been creative with some practical woodwork sessions. This theme fits in with our current series of reading books. We have already enjoyed Iggy Peck, Architect and Rosie Revere, Engineer.
The ideas in these stories led to the children exploring some of the wooden resources around the Reception. We have been making models using plywood and a set of tools. Careful sawing and hammering has taken place with adult supervision. Each class member was asked to design their own models.
Some of the large wooden blocks in our outdoor play space have been used to create different designs. One imaginative use was for a large wooden bed! These included features such as a wooden bed slide with some soft cushioning for comfort.
Our reading will continue as we approach the close of the summer term. Our final Reception book will be Ada Twist, Scientist. This fits in with Science Week as we come towards the summer break.
