Y5 Focus on Teamwork for the New School Year Ahead

Year 5 have made a brilliant start to their new learning in Year 5. Class teachers Joanna and Sophie are both pleased with the outstanding behaviour at the start of the term.

One of our first tasks was to to establish a set of classroom rules. These came out of a shared brainstorming session. Each pupil was asked to think about what would make their time in Year 5 an enjoyable learning experience.

Teamwork emerged as one of the key themes. We have been holding shared conversations about why Year 5 is such an important year. Much of the knowledge needed for the Year 6 SATS is first introduced in Year 5. We are all looking forward to a fantastic year ahead.

Some early artwork has already been produced. The pupils have been working on some detailed drawings of birds. We have seen how these need a level of accuracy if the proportion of the birds is to remain.

Tracing paper and a 4×4 grid system was used for this task. Some bright colours were then added to our drawings. A paint wash background was the finishing touch.

The pupils will soon start work on their major learning topic for the autumn term. We will be researching and learning in great detail about Ancient Greece.
