Year 1 have started an abstract art class topic. We have spoken about how some paintings have different meanings. An abstract picture doesn’t show you what you can see. The children have been thinking about some of the ideas that you might find in an abstract painting.
The work of Piet Mondrian has been looked at by the children. We enjoyed seeing how he used bright colours and square shapes to create his work. We have been using this as the inspiration to create our own collages.
The children placed some coloured squares on their canvas. They were asked to explain what their picture might represent.
