Year 6 have started a humanities topic exploring the Middle East area. We will be looking at the geography, the religions and the history of the area.
Our early research has looked at the timely Jewish festival of Yom Kippur. We have seen how Rosh Hashanah is a time to reflect on happiness. Sweets are often eaten to provide sweet thoughts.
We have also looked at how The Day of Atonement at the end of Yom Kippur is a time of reflection. Some of the pupils have been learning some Hebrew words.
The geography of the area has been explored with some artwork. Each pupil has hand painted a detailed map showing the many countries that make up the Middle East. We have been comparing the sizes of these.
Other major world religions in the Middle East will be researched in future weeks. You can listen to some of the students explaining a more about their early work in the recording below.
