Nursery Children Explore Sounds in Peer Group Sessions

The Nursery children have been exploring different sounds that instruments can make during their peer group time. We split into small groups of friends with an adult leading each session.

What’s in the Box is always a popular game to start our peer group time. The children are asked to guess what might be hidden away in the special box. A recent session saw many instruments being introduced.

The children were asked to describe the instruments. We then passed these around and played together as a small group. Key instructions were to play loudly and quietly, and then fast and slow.

Some of the groups explored the sounds that can be created in our Nursery play space. The children were asked why some surfaces produce a different sound. We were able to identify materials such as wood and metal.
