Journalism Pupils Win National Award for Housing Work

We are thrilled to announce that Michael Faraday School has won the Burnet News Club Thought Leader national award. This is in recognition of the outstanding journalism work produced by the after school club run by class teacher Leanne.

Each week a selection of Year 5 and Year 6 students meet to follow the programme of learning put in place by the Burnet News Club. Themes are presented for the pupils to research. This is a practical way of learning. Written reports, video and audio pieces are submitted online.

A recent topic was to look at the issues involved in the lack of social housing around some parts of the country. The submission from the Michael Faraday students was a mixture of video and words.

The students were also praised for the questions that they submitted for industry professionals to answer. This work offers practical learning skills. It is also relevant to our own lives in our community.

In total six videos were submitted. The pupils work independently with little adult support.
