Year 6 Preparation for Newspaper Reports

Year 6 have been identifying some key features that we can find in a newspaper report. We have seen how these often follow a similar structure.

The pupils have been asked to identify headlines and the importance of explaining the main points of the story in the first sentence. We have seen how Who, What, Where, Why and When need to appear at the top of the story.

This learning will lead to the students writing their own news stories. A fictional situation has been set up involving a giant gorilla falling from the Empire State Building.

Year 6 have been asked to plan in great detail the structure of their news report. Quotes and punctuation are other features that need to be included in our final piece of writing.
