Year 6 have continued their Chinese New Year celebrations by researching the country and the culture. We have been finding out facts about the historic country using many resources.
We found the use of traditional Chinese stories a wonderful way to learn a little more about some of the traditions. The pupils were particularly interested in the role of dragons in traditional Chinese stories. We have been comparing the Chinese view of dragons with how we depict them in our own Western culture.
The pupils have also been learning about religion in China. We have seen how Buddhism is the most popular religion. Chinese symbols and characters have been studied.
The geography element to this learning has looked at some of the endangered species in the country. Research has been carried out on how pandas are at risk. We have held a class discussion to define what it means to be endangered.
