Year 1 have been reading Roger McGough’s The Sound Collector as part of our celebration of Poetry Week. The children have enjoyed seeing the many different ways that a sound was made in the story. Written work has involved each class member re-writing their own version of the story.
The pupils have also completed some homework based around the story. They were asked to find some recyclable materials from home, and then use these to build their own unique instruments to make some sound. Some very interesting instruments are now on display in our classroom.
Elsewhere and Year 1 held a Dance-athon in the school ballroom. The aim was to dance for the duration of a whole class session. Different styles of music kept the children motivated. One of the highlights was the whole class taking part in the Macarena!
