The Reception children have been learning about healthy and unhealthy foods. We started this learning by understanding what healthy and unhealthy both mean.
Some food identification work then took place. The children were asked to identify pictures of different types of food. These included fish, cheese and chips.
The children were asked if each food type was healthy or unhealthy. Ideas were shared amongst friends. We also spoke about what is meant by a sensible diet. This involves having treats such as sweets, but not every day.
Each class member then made up their own healthy plate of food. The children were asked to choose six of the food pictures. Our plates had to show a healthy choice with perhaps one extra treat. Help was then given to label the food choices.
You can watch a couple of young Reception children talk about their food work in the video above.
