Year 5 Phonics Learning

Our phonics and spelling work has been continuing in Year 5. The pupils have been looking at some of the sounds that can be made by the letters ough.

We have seen how this can be confusing. Different phonics sounds can be heard in words such as dough, rough and through.

The pupils have also looked at some words containing these letters. We have researched the word lough and compared it to the Scottish word loch.

Poetry has been part of this learning. Year 5 have looked at some poems that use this string of letters. The pupils have also completed a dictionary definition exercise to explain the meanings of each word.

Finally some of the class members have made some great progress with their phonics online learning. This is an activity that the pupils can continue with at home.
