Year 2 Research Endangered Animal Species

Year 2 are continuing with their science topic exploring different environments. We have learnt about which animals prefer to live in certain conditions. The children are now all familiar with animal groups such as mammals, reptiles, birds and amphibians.

This has led to a look at endangered species. We started this learning by defining that an endangered animal is one that needs protecting so that the species can survive. One of the class members was able to introduce the word extinct to his friends.

Each class member has carried out some research and produced an endangered animal fact file. We read through a passage of text, and then wrote a series of short facts. The information covered the appearance, behaviour and preferred habitat of each animal.

Our next Year 2 science topic will involve the pupils looking in detail at different types of plant growth.
