Reception What the Ladybird Heard Stories and Bee Bots

The Reception children have completed some early writing based on our class book What the Ladybird Heard. The children have shown an interest in the two bad guys, Hefty Hugh and Lanky Len.

Each class member has written a letter to the police offering their help to capture the two criminals. Pictures have been drawn to back up the stories.

Our interest in Ladybirds has also been explored across other curriculum areas. The children have looked at the life cycle of a ladybird to see how their appearance changes.

We have also drawn maps that feature some of the locations in the story. The idea is to form a cunning plan that will help to capture Hefty Hugh and Lanky Len.

Early ICT learning in Reception has involved using the bee bots. These can be programmed to carry out a sequence of moves. The children are exploring how they can move the bee bots by giving a series of commands.

Finally our maths learning in Reception has involved the children looking at 2D and 3D shapes. The aim was to think about the properties such as the number of sides and corners that each shape has.
