Year 3 have been putting into to practise their sharp mathematical skills this week by playing a game of bingo! This is proving to be something of a classroom favourite. It helps the children with their basic number and sequence skills, as well as being great fun! We have been playing bingo in small teams and helping out each other with the game. Year 3 have also been learning the many number related phrases associated with the game – some of them make sense to us, some are just very confusing! All staff at Michael Faraday school would like to wish a happy and peaceful summer break for all within our Michael Faraday family. As we come towards the end of another highly successful school year, there is much to look forward to when we return in September.

Our fantastic new Michael Faraday school building is almost complete! The final touches are being made to the exterior. Fitting for the interior will take place during the summer break. We are all incredibly excited about the new teaching and community opportunities that this will present.

Many thanks to all the pupils, family and friends of Michael Faraday for being so co-operative during the transition period. It will be sad to say farewell to our old school building, which holds so many memories for us all.

We look forward to welcoming the children into their brand new teaching environment on Monday 6th September, 9am prompt!

Onwards and upwards with the new Michael Faraday.

After weeks of preparation, the big day finally arrived for the Year 6 end of term play. Our young pupils put in two fantastic performances of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, with an afternoon matinee followed by an evening show. This has been the culmination of many weeks of hard work within Year 6.

Having taken a class vote to decide upon the play, we then set about the task of writing our own script. Auditions then followed with a high standard of acting from both classes. Thankfully the play required many speaking parts, and so we were able to accommodate all of our fine actors.

Year 6 have been rehearsing the play, learning their lines and perfecting the songs over the past few weeks. All of the intense work paid off, with two stunning performances staged on the big day. We were thrilled to see so many family and friends of Michael Faraday coming into our school to help support Year 6. This is truly a significant moment in their school career, and we hope that the pupils will remember the occasion as much as we will!

This production wouldn’t have been possible without the dedication of our esteemed Directors, Leanne and Gabrielle. The amazing scenery and costumes have been made Gill, Bridget and Dilek, working alongside many of the pupils. A final thanks to Louise who has been our brilliant Musical Director of the show.

Both Reception classes had a brilliant day out at London Zoo this week. We have been learning all term about the many different types of animals, and sorting these into different groups. Our day out at the zoo gave us the perfect opportunity to see the animals up close, and to observe how all animals are different. We were able to look at dangerous animals such as the lions, animals that look unique such as giraffes and zebras, as well as the monkeys who were great fun to watch. A couple of our Reception children talk us through the highlights of their day out at London Zoo in the video above.

Year 2 have been using their ICT time to produce some wonderful booklets based on our current class topic of the Great Fire of London. We have been learning about how the Great Fire started, and also placing the events in the story in sequence on a Year 2 timeline. Working in pairs, Year 2 have been researching more detail about the events at Pudding Lane using the internet. We used this information to write a chronological report about the Great Fire. We also created some images on the computer to accompany our stories. A couple of class members from Year 2 proudly read out their Great Fire stories in the video above.

Year 3 are enjoying their musical workshops with the esteemed local composer, John Webb. We have been working on our own composition, themed around our current class topic of the Vikings. Year 3 have been thinking about the sounds that we associate with a Viking attack. We wanted to build up a sounds cape and create different musical layers. Year 3 have created a storyline of calm at the start of the composition, leading up to the Viking invasion, and then the retreat. We are proud to present a recording of the Year 3 Viking Raid in the podcast below.

Year 6 have been putting the final touches to the prestigious Michael Faraday end of year play. Our pupils will be performing a production of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory on 15th July, with a 2pm and a 6pm performance at the school. Having written our own script and held auditions, rehearsals have been taking place all term. Year 6 are now at the dress rehearsal stage ahead of the big performance next week.

Behind the scenes and the focus has been on making props and painting the stage set. Willy Wonka’s magical chocolate factory has presented our pupils with some rather inventive stage effects to try and put across. We don’t want to give away any secrets just yet, but be prepared to be amazed at the performance!

All family and friends of our Year 6 pupils are invited to come to either the 2pm or 6pm performance. Tickets will be available to collect either before, or after school, outside of the Year 6 area. It will be all right on the night!
