The Christmas period is always an exceptionally busy time at Michael Faraday School. We organise many events within the school, as well as being invited to participate in festive celebrations within our local community.

This year has been no different. Our annual Michael Faraday Winter Fair was the most successful yet. We are incredibly grateful to all the parents and governors who supported this event. We are thrilled to report that just over £1,200 was raised on the day. We will be talking with our School Councillors from each year group about how we can best spend this money on school resources.

A number of our pupils were invited to go ice skating with our very good friends from Rothschild Bank. Each year we welcome the top graduate bankers into our school community to gain an insight into education. In return, Rothschild very kindly organises many trip for our pupils. The ice skating was a huge success. Long may this partnership continue.

Our Year 3 and Year 4 children were invited this Christmas to sing some carols at the Devonshire Square Winter Market. Office workers from nearby left their desks, just to come and be cheered up with the uplifting singing from from our pupils. You can read more about this event over here.

And finally we come to the grand finale of our Christmas celebrations. The annual Michael Faraday Winter Concert at the nearby St Peter’s Church is always one of the most popular events in the school calendar. Children from across the school have been busy rehearsing for many weeks now ahead of the two performances. Our valued support staff made an amazing effort with the various costumes, and much planning has gone into this production from Pauline, our musical producer. Many thanks to the Reverend Sheila for allowing our school community to stage the concert at this very special building.

A stunning afternoon and evening performance was the reward. Many parents always comment on how special this occasion is in the development of their children as pupils at Michael Faraday. We once again welcomed a volunteer team from Rothschild Bank into the school this week. The school has a wonderful working relationship with the investment bank, as each organisation shares ideas and ways of working together.

We greatly appreciate each year having a week of the valuable time from the entrants of the Rothschild’s graduate scheme. This elite group of young bankers attach themselves to a class for the duration of the week, offering their support and ideas, and hopefully feeling inspired after their time spent at Michael Faraday.

This is a fantastic example of a wonderful relationship between a major financial institution and a local school. The children greatly enjoy their time spent with our graduate friends. In return, Rothschild kindly invite our Year 6 children to visit the City headquarters of one of the most famous names in banking. The roles are reversed, and the children get an insight into the world of high finance.
