Our literacy work around Year 3 has involved looking at Fables. We have been interested in finding out what is special about a fable, and what overall message we can take away from each story. The Hare and the Tortoise has proven to be a particular Year 3 favourite. We have been re-writing the story, paying attention to using descriptive words to add in more detail to the story. The main part of our work has been to make sure the message of ‘slow and steady wins the race,’ is put across. We have widened this theme during our class discussions, to see how the fable can relate to our own, everyday experiences. You can listen to a couple of our Year 3 children reading out their re-written Hare and the Tortoise tales in the podcast below.
