The children in Reception had a great time playing the game of Cross the River this week. This is an activity that helps the children to recognise basic phonetics. Each child is handed out an item, such as a toy dog, a plastic egg or a map. We sound out the basic phonetics that we can hear in the names of our item. Our class teacher wrote down each item, one by one, on the class whiteboard. If we could see the phonetics that are in the names of our itmes, it meant that it was our time to cross the river! Once we reached the other side, the children found jars containing various phonetic labels. We had to place our item in the correct container.
