As part of our class topic of Ancient Greek Myths and Legends, Year 5 have been looking at great detail at the story of Theseus and the Minotaur. We wanted the children to explore the idea of what it must be like to be trapped underground, as was the case for Theseus in the popular Greek tale. This idea is also linked in with the news story of the rescue of the Chilean miners from underground. This wonderful rescue mission has fascinated year 5, and so we decided to combine the idea of being underground into a piece of literacy work. We asked our Year 5 pupils to imagine what it must be like to be trapped in such a situation. We asked them to write a thoughtful piece addressing what they would miss if they were trapped underground. You can listen to some of the ideas being explored in the podcast below.
