Year 5 celebrated International Peace Day by staging an assembly for our Key Stage 2 friends looking at the many ways in which people strive for world peace. We have researched this topic in class, learning about different historical figures and what contribution they have made to world peace.
Our assembly featured the pupils reading out some rather moving peace poems that we wrote during our literacy lessons. We encouraged the children to fill the poems with as many similes and metaphors as possible, and to write their poems using figurative speech.
