German Friendships at Faraday

Alex the Bear

Children around Michael Faraday School have been enjoying the company of a very special visitor – Alex the German Bear! Our special friend has joined us all the way from Germany, to learn all about English life, as well as to help the children with our knowledge of German culture. He is a friend of Ben the English Bear, who is currently visiting Jasmine, our German teacher friend who helped us out at Michael Faraday last year.

Different year groups have enjoyed showing Alex all about life in the UK. Year 3 even took our German guest out on their recent trip to the Maritime Museum in Greenwich! Year 2 decided to hold a tea party for Alex. All of the children brought in their own bears to help Alex feel comfortable. We then shared some German food, such as lebkuchen and pretzels. We watched a short video about life in Berlin, and then Alex helped us with our German language lessons.

This is a great exercise in helping to understand different languages and cultures. A blog has been set up, with both Alex and Ben updating with news of their travels abroad. We hope that Alex has enjoyed his visit to Michael Faraday School!
