Ahead of the grand Michael Faraday Diamond Jubilee Party in the Playground, Year 6 put on a superb assembly, explaining all about the reasons why we are celebrating the occasion. Our assembly started off with a look at the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth in 1952, the role that she plays at both home and in the Commonwealth, as well as the historic importance of the Jubilee weekend that we will be celebrating.
Year 6 pupils from different countries in the Commonwealth proudly explained as to why the Queen is so respected in each of their home countries. We then talked about the work of the Queen, as well as her own personal interests. We thought of different ways in which people around the Commonwealth might celebrate the Diamond Jubilee – street parties, concerts and parades.
We finished off our Jubilee with a quiz all about the Queen. Successful answers were rewarded with a Union Flag. Finally we were treated to a visit from a very special guest. Look closely in the video above to see if you can recognise our VIP visitor!
