Year 1 have finished their science work for the summer term by looking at sound and how it is made. We wanted the children to understand the difference between loud sounds, and quiet sounds.
To demonstrate this, we introduced a series of instruments into the Year 1 class. These included the flute, drums, shakers and guitars. The children were able to experiment with these instruments, and to work out how the sound is made. We also found out that the level of noise created changes if we stand at a distance further away.
The children were then inspired to create their own instruments. As well as looking like the real thing, we also wanted our instruments to copy the scientific way in which the sound is made in instruments. We have designed and built guitars, drums and shakers. You can watch these being played in the video above.
