One of the annual highlights in the Michael Faraday School calendar is always the Year 6 end of year play. Just as the standard of the production somehow manages to rise each year, it is also difficult to describe the play and do justice to the quality of the performance. 2012 was no exception.
Our Year 6 pupils put on a production of Cinderella Rockefella. This is a take on the traditional fairy tale, but with a very contemporary modern twist. The show required plenty of singing – which is just as well, seeing as though the outgoing Year 6 students can boast many outstanding musical talents.
Pre-show and the nerves were present backstage. These were all positive though – we managed to channel these to help with the energy in our performances!
A matinee and an evening performance were put on in the School Ball Room. We rotated the cast for each show, allowing all of the many special talents in Year 6 to have a chance to be showcased. Audience participation was particularly important in this production. We were pleased to be blessed with a very responsive audience for both shows.
The weeks of rehearsals paid off, with two stunning shows being performed. Everything went all right on the night – no line slips, and a very smooth backstage management of the show!
As ever, there are many staff to thank for making the Year 6 play such a success. Leanne and Gabrielle have worked solidly on the production for the past six weeks; likewise for the dedicated support staff including Bridgette, Dilek, Fatima, Donna and Chantelle.
The main thanks though must go to the Year 6 pupils. Great maturity has been shown in putting on the production. With SATS and the traditional timetable more or less complete by the end of May, our students showed no lack of ambition in continuing their quest to learn and develop.
We are also grateful to the many parents and friends of Year 6 pupils who came out to support the production. The evening show was a complete sell out. As ever, we value and thank you for the interest that you show in our school community.
Good luck to our departing Year 6 pupils with their future development. We hope that you will always remember the happy memories form the Michael Faraday School Play.
But in case you forget…
