Our new Year 1 pupils have started the new term by working on a series of self-portraits. We wanted the children to become more self-aware and confident about how we are all different, but also share the same features. We painted some portraits that are now proudly on display in both classrooms.
Our second series of self-portraits involved placing a mirror in a horizontal position down one side of our face. We printed off a life size photograph of our face, cut this in half and then used the mirror image to match up what we saw. The next step in this exercise will be to model a sculpture of our facial features in 3D using plasticine.
This is a very important year in the development of the Year 1 children as they move into KS1 at Michael Faraday for the first time. There are many new and exciting additions to the school routine that the children need to get familiar with. We are all now attending the full KS1 assemblies and enjoying the work being shared by others around the school.
We have also introduced the children to the school laptops for the first time. We explained the rules that we all must stick to in order to use the computer equipment safely. This ICT work will continue on a weekly basis throughout the year.
