Both Reception classes have returned after the Christmas break keen to learn more about our brand new class topic of transport. Much of our work over the coming weeks will be based around the brilliant class reading book, The Naughty Bus. As the title suggests, this tells the story of a big red London double decker that manages to travel to places where he really shouldn’t be going!
We are tying in this work with other areas of the Reception curriculum. Our maths work over the next few weeks will focus on improving our counting skills, and in particular, how to use a tally chart. The children will be working in small groups out in the community as they take part in a bus hunt along the Walworth Road.
We are also hopeful of arranging a trip to the London Transport Museum later in the term so that we can see how busses have changed their appearance over the past fifty years.
Away from the Naughty Bus and there are many cultural calendar dates coming up. We will soon be starting our Reception work to help celebrate the Chinese New Year. Shortly after this is Shrove Tuesday – plenty of pancakes will be baked in Reception!
