Year 3 have been producing some wonderful literacy and D & T work based around The Iron Man, our current class reading book. This is a story that we have been considering in great detail, especially some of the descriptions of the Iron Man.
The pupils have used their recent D & T time to create their own Iron Man models. The story talks about the size of the robot: he is as tall as a house. We have held class conversations about exactly how tall is a house? And what type of house are we talking about?
This inspired the pupils to have the idea of creating a series of images, showing the relative size of the Iron Man with their own heights. As you can see from some of the results below, the effect is quite stunning!
The literacy side to our Iron Man work has now moved on to consider how we can tell the story through a series of newspaper reports. We have spoken about the many different elements that make up a newspaper front page from the headline, the standfirst, the text and a photograph.
We asked Year 3 to sequence the Iron Man story, and then to re-write this in the style of a newspaper report. Punctuation was incredibly important. We wanted the children to have a superb use of exclamation marks and quotations. We will be adding our Iron Man photos into our newspaper reports, once they have been produced.
