Year 4 have been producing some highly emotive work based around our current class topic of World War 2. We have been particularly interested in the experiences of London schoolchildren during this period, and what impact the war had on their dally lives.
The pupils have all produced a piece of written work, presented as a diary entry from the point of view of a London child living through the war. We have used role-play to think about how it must have felt to have been living in London during this time.
We used this as a useful point to introduce the concept of evacuation. Year 4 have been finding out why it was safer for London children to live in the countryside during World War 2. The pupils then produced some very moving drama. We set up the scene of a train platform and children and parents having to say goodbye to one another.
Our World War 2 work will continue in Year 4 to look at life in the countryside for evacuees, and how this might have differed from living in London.
