Year 5 Assembly Video

Year 5 made a fantastic effort in their recent school assembly celebrating the Chinese New Year. We started off our assembly with a traditional Mandarin greeting. We are very fortunate at Michael Faraday School in that we have many Chinese families as part of our school community who are keen to share their knowledge and experience.

The assembly then continued with the appearance of a Chinese snake – fitting for 2013, as we are about to celebrate the Year of the Snake. The traditional Chinese New Year story was then looked at. We explained the symbolism contained in the twelve animals that make up the Chinese Zodiac.

We have been carrying out a great deal of research about Chinese culture and traditions. We shared some of this information during our assembly. We invited friends from other year groups to also volunteer any facts about the country that they may know.

Part of the traditional Chinese New Year animal story was then re-enacted, as well as a simple Chinese proverb that carries a powerful message. You can watch a short video of this above.

After the assembly we caught up with some of our Year 5 pupils to ask them to explain some of the ideas that they wanted to put across in their assembly. You can listen to our thoughts in the audioboo below.
