The Nursery children have been looking forward to the Easter period with many different activities based around springtime themes. Mini-chocolate Easter Cakes have been baked. We decorated these with some small chocolate eggs, as well as making a traditional Easter basket in which to carry the cakes home in. The children have also designed and made their own Easter cards. We asked each Nursery member to think carefully about whom they wanted to send their card to, and then offered help to write a personal message.
Musical instruments have also been creating quite a sound in the Michael Faraday Nursery. The children have been learning about the different types of musical sounds, and how these variations are all made. We have been making our own guitars, shakers and drums – a great success, as you can see from the video above.
The Summer term in the Nursery will see the children look at the way humans, animals and plant life grow. We are incredibly excited about the arrival of some chicks in the Nursery. We have formed a special arrangement with our friends from Surrey Docks Farm. The Nursery is going to house for a short period a special incubator for some chick eggs. The children will observe and monitor how the new chicks are hatched out of the eggs. Once this takes place, we will carefully hand back the new borns to our friends at Surrey Docks Farm. A Nursery trip is being planned so that we can see how the chicks have grown. Similar projects involving caterpillars and butterflies will also take place.
