The Reception children are greatly enjoying the many activities that we are working on based around our current key textbook, Surprising Sharks. The children have become fascinated by the characters in the book. We are using this as a starting block to explore more about the shark world and why it is important to protect them from extinction.
All children have written short pieces of text, explaining how we can help sharks to be remain safe. We were also incredibly excited when we received a letter from our friend Sid the Shark! We have drawn some posters of Sid to send back in return.
To help the children develop the theme of conservation further, we are hopeful that the Michael Faraday Reception will soon be able to adopt a real life shark. He won’t be coming to live in the classroom, but we will be receiving many updates on the progress.
Our shark work will come to a conclusion in Reception with a grand Under the Sea party to help celebrate all of the work that we have created. We will encourage the children to come dressed in sea themed costumes, as well as eating some food inspired by the sea. The Reception children will ten present their shark work during a special Michael Faraday assembly.
