Year 1 had a wonderful time recently when we welcomed into our school some actors as part of a theatre workshop. There were some very powerful and important messages being put across with the main theme of the afternoon being that of road safety.
The two main characters in the performance acted out a number of scenes that were able to pass on some key road safety tips. These included no running in front of the road, no crossing in-between parked cars and to use our sense of sight and hearing when helping us to cross the road.
We were introduced to the idea of a pelican and zebra crossing, and shown the correct way in which to use both of these. Plus there was a wonderful song to learn at the end of the performance, as well as being able to watch out teachers dance on stage! You can find out more by watching the video above.
Elsewhere around Year 1 and the children are embracing the current class theme of monsters. We are using this topic across the curriculum to help us with many different types of learning. In literacy the children are writing their own monster poems. Maths work has involved using monsters to help us with our understanding of the number line. The children have also made a wonderful selection of monsters during D & T sessions, as you can see in the photo gallery below.
