Year 3 have been carrying out some complex mathematical calculations using our knowledge of the number line. All pupils are of course familiar with the traditional number line and how this can help us with our maths work. We have now introduced to Year 3 the concept of an empty number.
We have used the idea of counting backwards in various large chunks – units of ten or single units for finishing off our sums. The pupils have also been taught the importance of self-correction and how to check that our original calculations are correct. You can find out more about both stages in this process in the two videos featured.
