Year 4 Ukuleles

Year 4

We are coming towards the end of our weekly ukulele sessions in Year 4. Both classes have benefitted from the expertise tuition that we are fortunate to receive from Lorraine at Learn to Uke. All pupils are now familiar with ukulele techniques such as chord changes, strumming styles and learning how to play collectively and keep a constant rhythm.

Year 4

The ukulele is the perfect introduction to a string-based instrument for Key Stage 2 pupils. It is an ideal size for the children not to feel intimidated when they first play it. Following a few early sessions, most children are able to master an effective technique.

Year 4

We also run a Year 5 Ukulele Club at Michael Faraday. Any pupils that feel inspired from their Year 4 tuition are invited to carry on learning and improving during lunchtime and after school sessions.

Year 4

Year 4 are putting in some final rehearsals ahead of a grand Summer Show that we will soon perform to family and friends. We have worked alongside the pupils to help put together a suitable running order. We want the end of year celebration to showcase what can be achieved, as well as featuring some of our favourite songs.

Year 4

We are happy to share a short recording from one of the rehearsals sessions below.

Year 4

Elsewhere around Year 4 and we all feel justifiably proud of what we achieved at the recent City of London Festival. Michael Faraday School was invited into the financial district to perform a selection of songs to the City workers during their lunch break.

We have spent most of the summer term preparing for this occasion. The theme for the 2013 festival was trees, and in particular, the importance of a green environment within a city.

Year 4 sung many tree themed songs such as Yellow Bird, Willow and Don’t Sit Under the Apple Tree. We received a tremendous response from the City workers who stopped their lunchtime activities to enjoy our performance.

Year 4

Both staff and students are now looking forward to a well-received trip to the seaside as a reward for all that has been achieved in Year 4 at Michael Faraday throughout the school year.
