Y4 Nonsense Poems

Year 4 have started the new term at Michael Faraday School by learning all about nonsense poems. These are a clever form of writing that is not so nonsense as they first sound. Poems like Of the Ning Nang Nong or The Jabberwocky are incredibly well structured stories that invite the listener to think about the play on words and what the real meaning might be.

We have been looking at how to understand the poem we first need to be able to understand the language. As this work develops, Year 4 will be writing their own nonsense poems, which we hope will actually be rather clever. You can watch Pauline’s Year 4 class perform Lewis Carroll’s famous Jabberwocky poem in the video above.

Elsewhere in Year 4 and our science topic for the new term concerns the human body. We will be learning about the different body parts and bone structure, and how each organ is essential for us all to survive. One of our young pupils was unfortunate to break his arm recently. He will be sharing his experience of how it happened, what it felt like and how the bone was successfully healed.
