The annual Michael Faraday Winter Fair was once again a fantastic occasion. Each year we are incredibly grateful to the Friends of Faraday. The volunteer group work wonderfully with our staff to help make the Winter Fair possible.
The main cause is to generate some extra funds for the Friends of Faraday to spend within the school. The opportunity to come together in our school community and look forward to the festive season is also always welcome!
The 2013 Winter Fair took place as soon as teaching finished on 6 Dec. An impressive selection of stalls and activities were set up throughout the day in the school.
The main meeting space was transformed into a Christmas market. Many items were on sale – books, toys and even school uniform accessories. This was an incredibly busy place in which to find a bargain, all under the lights of our beautiful Michael Faraday Christmas tree.
Side stalls included a Guess the Number of Sweets in a Jar competition, as well as a thoughtful Name the Celebrity from a selection of baby photos.
Out towards the school Ballroom and the focus shifted towards food. The cake stall was incredibly popular, selling out of cupcakes and drinks long before it was time to end the Fair. The delicious selection of hot food from around the world was another appetite pleaser. Many, many thanks to the kind folk who offered up some home cooking for us to sell.
The Buzz Wire game in the Ballroom gave the pupils the chance to try and relax amongst all the excitement.
The face stencils and arm tattoos were also popular with a festive theme in the design.
The bead-threading stall produced hopefully future Christmas presents in the making.
As ever though it was left to Father Christmas to make the Michael Faraday Winter Fair the festive experience that brings back the crowds each year. Santa’s Grotto looked stunning in the school Studio. We had queues of children all afternoon keen to meet Father Christmas and share thoughts about the Christmas season. Santa remained a happy, calming presence throughout. Fine work, Sir.
The Michael Faraday Winter Fair came to a close with the traditional drawing of the raffle. Many local businesses contributed some special gifts. We are grateful to you all for helping to support our school community.
Perhaps the most joyous sight at the Winter Fair was the expression of sheer disbelief on one young Year 2 pupil when she found out she had won the star raffle prize of a Kindle Fire.
We have yet to calculate the final figure for the money raised at the Michael Faraday Winter Fair. This is an event that we are incredibly grateful to the Friends of Faraday for helping to make possible.
The group is currently experiencing a new period of increased parent-led activity. The Friends are always looking for new members to be able to provide either a formal or informal role.
The main aim is to raise money to help the school. The Friends group then decides where these funds can be allocated. A recent example is the subsidising of a Christmas theatre trip for our Year 2 and Year 3 pupils.
As well as the Winter Fair there is also the outdoor Summer Fair. The Friends group has ambitious plans to put on an Easter Disco for all school pupils in 2014.
Any time, ideas or passion that you can volunteer would be hugely appreciated. The usual commitment is for a monthly meeting. The group would welcome any input or skills that you can offer.
The overall ethos is very much one of celebrating our Michael Faraday School community. The group likes to welcome parents into the school as much as possible and to take an active interest in the opportunities available to all pupils.
If you are able to help keep the Friends of Faraday a positive and active group, please do express an initial interest via the school office.
Many thanks to all who helped to make the 2013 Winter Fair another fantastic success for the school.
