Year 1 are continuing to look at fairy tales and some of the characters and messages that we can find in these stories. The children have just finished reading the Hansel and Gretel story.
We were fascinated by the idea of having a cottage that was made entirely out of sweets. This inspired the children to create their own fairy tale cottage made out of sweets!
The children were told that the evil witch had lost her shopping list containing all of the sweets and ingredients needed the house. We set the task of writing a new shopping list for all the different types of sweets that we might need to build our cottage.
Once the lists were complete, the sweets were then bought and we went about the task of building our fairy tale sweet cottages. We all washed our hands first so as not to pass on any possible germs.
We then used a bread loaf for the inside of the house, and then carefully built up the layer of sweets.
Our fairy tale topic will continue with our next task of creating some finger puppets out of the characters that we have been reading about. We can then use these to act out some of our favourite fairy tales.
