Year 6 have started work on a new literacy book, Louis Sachar’s Holes. This builds upon some of the themes that we have been looking at whilst reading There’s a Boy in the Girl’s Bathroom, another book by the same author.
We have introduced the storyline to Holes by watching short segments from the film. The pupils are not sure how the story comes to a close. We have instead been looking at some of the early signs to help us understand a little more about the characters.
Year 6 have produced a series of newspaper reports to document the facts that we know so far. We have been talking about how a news style report differs from a piece of fiction. It needs to contain facts and describe what has been happening.
A couple of Year 6 students share some of their thoughts in the recording below.
