Year 5 have been celebrating what would have been William Shakespeare’s 450th birthday by researching and looking at the life of the great English playwright. All pupils have been to the nearby Globe theatre and so we are already familiar with the type of setting where his plays would have first been performed.
Our research started off by looking at the three main types of plays that Shakespeare wrote: tragedies, comedies and historical plays. We have been looking at examples of each of these genres.
Macbeth has been a popular play in Year 5. The pupils have been using plenty of role-play to help to understand the complex plot. You can listen a couple of the Year 5 class members describe more about their Shakespeare work in the podcast below.
