The Year 6 students at Michael Faraday School are coming close to the start of the 2014 SATS week. This can be a nervous time for some of the pupils. The teaching staff have been helping each class member to come up with a strategy that will help them to achieve their full potential when the SATS tests start on 12 May.
Two maths papers and two English exams will be completed during SATS week. The written English test is an assessment that is now carried out internally by the Michael Faraday School teaching staff.
We have been preparing for this by setting a very specific writing challenge. The pupils have been asked to write a letter to a well-known person inviting them to attend a charity event. We have encouraged the class members to research the celebrity that they are writing to, as well as the aims of their chosen charity.
The letters need to appear formal, but also have a relaxed feel. Our research work has allowed the pupils to understand a little more about the famous person that we are inviting. This information has then been used in the written work that we are completing.
We would like to remind all parents and carers of Year 6 pupils that there will be a pre-SATS meeting at the school at 5pm on 1 May. This will be an opportunity for Leanne and Gabrielle to explain a little more about what will take place during SATS week, as well the chance for questions to be answered.
Most of the revision work should now be complete. Each pupil has their own Revise Wise books if they need any extra support. The SATS booster clubs that we have set up leading towards the tests have proven to be very beneficial.
Good luck Year 6!
