The Year 1 children have been introduced to the wonderful book Where the Wild Things Are as part of our literacy learning for the summer term. We have looked at the main events in the story to try and understand more about the main characters.
Each pupil has pretended that they are the character of Max. We have written a letter to Max’s mum, staying in character and explaining how and why he has gone on his great adventure.
Year 1 haven’t quite reached the end of the story. We spent a recent session asking the pupils to think of a suitable idea for a possible ending.
The pupils were encouraged to think about what they already know about the character of Max, and what his motivations might be. We were asked to complete the sentence:
“Max looked at his mother and…”
Each class member has drawn a picture, and then completed a speech bubble for Max and his Mum. We have written a short explanation below as to what is taking place in the scene. You can listen to a selection of these being read out in the recording below.
All pupils have also crafted some of their favourite Where the Wild Things Are characters using sugar dough.
