Year 1 had a wonderful time during our recent trip to Surrey Docks Farm. We have been learning about different farm animals and looking at where they might like to live. Our visit to the farm was a great opportunity to see the animals in their natural habitats.
We are using this experience to help us with our learning back at Michael Faraday School. The Year 1 children have started work on designing their own farmyard. We have been thinking about where each animal would like to live, and what we need to put in place to make them feel comfortable.
The farm theme has also continued during our literacy lessons. Year 1 have been writing some farmyard poetry based on what we could see at Surrey Docks Farm. We have been sharing these in class and reciting them in front of our friends.
The children have also made a selection of farmyard animal characters using salt dough, as well as some farmyard finger puppets.
Elsewhere in Year 1 and our maths learning is continuing to progress. We have been helping the children with their addition and substraction skills. We will soon move on to look at shapes and how we can identify them.
