Year 6 have been thinking deeply about some of the characters in There’s a Boy in the Girls’ Bathroom, our current class reading book. The story is rich with many characters who change their behaviour as the plot develops.
The pupils have been using the technique of hot seating to try and understand some of the motivations for each character. This requires one class member to take their place in the hot seat, and then imagine that they are a certain character. Other class friends then quiz them about their role in the story, asking questions as to why they made certain decisions.
This role play not only helps the person in the hot seat to think about the character, but it is also a great way to improve the questioning skills of the other pupils in the class. We have been making sure that open questions are asked will give us as much information as possible when answered.
