Our main history topic for the spring term in Year 3 has been to look at the Stone, Bronze and Iron age. We have been learning how all three of these time periods were important for the development of civilisation. Many valuable inventions such as hunting tools or clothing were produced during this time in history.
Year 3 have been fascinated with the idea of the Celtic shields that first emerged during the Iron Age. Each class member has designed and then constructed their own Celtic shield as part of our D & T learning.
This work started off with the initial designs being sketched out on paper. We asked each class member to try and think of a theme that would be personal to them. This idea also had to have some relevance to the Iron Age period that we have been learning about.
The designs were then transferred onto a paper plate. Other resources were added such as string, straws and small pieces of wood. The final touch will be to paint our Celtic shields in a metallic colour.
The next task for Year 3 as part of this project is to think about how we can create our own mini hill forts!
